Mozilla introduces new warnings about insecurity of HTTP-pages in Firefox

Mozilla introduces new warnings about insecurity of HTTP pages in Firefox

Bad news for those who still haven’t installed SSL-certificates for their sites: in Firefox 51, released on 23 January, new security indicators will be displayed. The most significant change relates to the browser UI – the introduction of a new indicator for HTTP pages containing password forms.

Now all users who visited the HTTP page with registration or login form will see a crossed-out grey lock icon in the address bar of the browser. Clicking on the «i» button, located next to the lock icon, will display a «Connection is Not Secure» warning.

This change was made for the purpose of notifying users that their personal data may be compromised due to the use of unsecured HTTP.

Notifications in Firefox follow the general trend on the recognition of HTTP sites as unsecure. In the Google Chrome such warnings are already displayed:

Also, Mozilla developers have officially announced that in the near future an embedded warning for password fields will appear in the browser.

These warnings will be displayed just below the field for the password on all HTTP pages. This feature is planned for Firefox 52, which will be released on 6 March.

But that's not all. Following the course for global protection of the web, Mozilla specialists plan to display crossed-out grey locks for all HTTP pages.

If you still have not protected your site with an SSL-certificate, now’s the time to do it. A crossed-out grey castle displayed in the browser will lead to a decline in trust on the part of visitors and would be a serious blow to the company's reputation. We recommend that you purchase an EV SSL-certificate giving maximum visual signals and increased sales of up to 40%.
